81,000 troops deployment by today

RAWALPINDI: The deployment of 81,000 army and paramilitary soldiers to maintain order during the February 18 elections would be completed today (Friday), a top military spokesman said.

The government has declared 52 districts “sensitive” for the elections.

“The troops will be deployed only outside polling stations,” Inter Services Public Relations Director General Major General Athar Abbas told reporters. Military sources said that around 34,000 army and 47,000 paramilitary troops would cover the “most sensitive” polling stations on the vote day. “Around 159 Pakistan Army companies will help civil administrations in all four provinces to maintain order during elections,” the sources said. online
